Good working relationships give us several other benefits: our work is more enjoyable when we have good relationships with those around us. Good relationships are also often necessary if we hope to develop our careers. As well we need good working relationships with others in our professional circle. 7.1 Describe different problems that can affect relationships, and the actions that can be taken to deal with specific difficulties. Sometimes you have to work with someone you don’t like. But it’s essential that you maintain a professional relationship with them. When this happens, you have to make an effort to get to know the person. First you have to improve the relationship by engaging them in a genuine conversation or by inviting them out for lunch. 8.1 Explain your responsibilities and the responsibilities of others within the work location, in terms of communication. ECITB CO – UA 2 Work safely and minimise risk in engineering construction. Every employees has the responsibility of ensuring the working place is safe for others and subsequent workers. Therefore every person should be safety conscious and remove any workplace hazard they notice. At the same time as each employee engage in any duty, it is necessary to ensure any third party is a ware and at a safe distance. To work safely the employee should ensure:- -The working area is safe and ideal -the machine is protected/right too for job -Operators communication enhanced 1.1 Explain the requirements of health and safety legislation. The main requirement of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations is that employers must carry out risk assessments to eliminate or reduce risks. Employers with five or more employees need to record the significant findings of a risk assessment. It also requires employers to meet minimum standards in relation to a wide range of matters, which include: maintenance of buildings and equipment, lighting, provision of drinking water, temperature, rest facilities AND ventilation. 1.2 Explain the consequences for employers and employees of not fulfilling their legal health and safety responsibilities: Failure to adhere to the normally basic health and safety procedure at workplace normally leads to accidents, hazards and property losses that can affect everyone in the workplace. The employer is far at much more risk since the cost of compensation is huge and in some cases they get sued for negligence. 1.3 Explain the purpose and nature of risk assessments, method statements, and permit to work systems, and the relevance of local procedures and guidance notes. Method Statement – This is a plan used in the workplace to guide the working process to success safely by explaining the various ways of doing things and using machine safely.it help contractors and employees perform the necessary tasks safely. Risk Assessment – aimed at identifying risks or hazards at the work place in order to call or assess the situation as represented on the safety, health and welfare at work place act of 2005 Permit to work –this is a more precise document that indicates what work is to be done, when and method of doing it safely. It acts as a means of communication between site management, plant supervisors and operators, and those who carry out the work. Ideal for high risk jobs such as welding. 1.4 Describe reporting lines and procedures. The response line depends on the time of occurrence and who is responsible. However assuming it is a health and safety issue that occur during the working period, the immediate response is to inform the line manager or project manager responsible for the task being done. The line manager then approach the relevant body responsible for such line of issue and in this case is health and safety officer. The HEALTH OFFICER can then coordinate with the hospital, experts or handle the situation alone depending on risk level. The person responsible will have to monitor the skills the employee have in relations to HSE and evaluate if the meet the minimum knowledge required to perform. Other signs that a person requires training are: quality decreasing, production targets not being met, increasing mistakes, complaints from customers, complaints from members of staff, and workplace injuries. Several risk especially if we work high up near the lines or come in contact we can get electrocuted leading to death or injuries. Therefore we need to Plan and manage work near electric overhead power lines so that risks from accidental contact or close proximity to the lines are adequately controlled 2.9 Describe what must be done when carrying hazardous substances in vehicles. Depends on the type of hazard but it need to be properly sealed and kept further from the passengers in a right container. The driver should drive with stability to reduce the chance of vibrations that might pour it or make it explode. 2.10 Describe where asbestos is likely to be found, what should be done it is thought to have been found and how it is a risk to health. Asbestos is found in mines and in real life situations it is likely to be found in some Electrical Insulation and building insulations and when found we should avoid exposing ourselves to it since it causes diseases such as lung cancer 3.1 Explain who is responsible for ensuring that equipment is checked and safe to use. The employer or the contractor has the responsibility of ensuring that the equipment is safe for use. This can be verified by the project safety officer who oversees the whole process. 3.2 Describe who is responsible and who must assess the health and safety of people working on a client’s site. Responsible-employer/contractor -Responsible for every person on site and to ensure the working environment is safe. Assessment-This is done by an expert, in this case the HS officer who cans liars with the government inspector if necessary. 3.3 Describe the legal rights and responsibilities of the appointed safety representatives and the powers of the regulatory inspectors.
