The Importance of Telecommunication in Todays Business Environment Research Area In the contemporary business scenario, telecommunication infrastructure and integral information technology play an imperative role towards the development of different spheres of an economy that include banking, manufacturing, government, education and agriculture. Information communication technology (ICT) is an important aspect for the development of a society as a whole. Additionally, ICT is also considered fundamental for the development as well as growth of business sectors. In the present competitive business scenario, ICT is adopted efficiently with the aim of ensuring that business operations are conducted with better competitiveness. In this context, the advancement of different communication tools and internet has facilitated businesses in performing their business activities succinctly in the worldwide markets segments (Ndukwe, 2003). In this respect, the research paper is based on the study of the importance of telecommunication in the present business environment. The proposed research study is conducted with the aim of determining the importance of telecommunication for the development of business sector. Currently, the development of ICT infrastructure on a global context has been witnessed to expand at a breakneck pace. In this context, the rapid progress in the field of ICT has increased the implication of ICT for both business and people to a large extent. The expansion of ICT has also diversified the variety of applications as well as services in the area of communication, entertainment and information. Subsequently, the development of the aforementioned aspects of ICT has motivated in conducting the proposed research with the intention of ascertaining the implications of ICT for the present business environment (ITU, 2013). The contemporary business environment has intensified with competition owing to different factors that include globalization and advancement in technology. In this regard, businesses are required to conduct their operation with better competitiveness in the segments of products and services for better sustainable business performances. The rapid changes in the field of technology have been accountable for the development of telecommunication services to produces contemporary products and services at a reasonable price in accordance with the preferences of global customers. Contextually, the development of the telecommunication industry is important for the enhanced economic performance of an economy and development of business sector in worldwide market segments (Economides, 2004). 2. Problem Statement of the Research Telecommunication plays an important role in assisting businesses to develop an effective communication network on a global context. Businesses with the aid of telecommunication are identified to communicate business information to suppliers, partners and customers spread across the different geographical locations. In this context, businesses implement telecommunication in order to be facilitated with the opportunity of building a global communication network. Businesses are required to develop telecommunication network with the assistance of internet and telephone for building better network connectivity with customers, suppliers and business collaborates in different countries, so that business operations are conducted in an effective manner. Additionally, the development of telecommunication has also assisted businesses in improving their business operations relating to trade, offshore production and exports immensely. Nevertheless, advancement in technology is also recognized to inherent different negative aspects that include competition and increased policy changes. Rapid development in the field of telecommunication has resulted in continuous changes in policy, which has increased complexities for different countries in adopting advanced technology effectively. Moreover, the development of technology has also been identified to increase market competition for the provision of identical products and services by different businesses. Market competition also intensified for businesses to conduct operations in an open market. In this respect, businesses with the assistance of telecommunication have augmented competition for increased availability of wide array of products and services at economical rates. In addition, different developing countries are required to make huge investment in order to adopt advanced technology. Government of countries adopting advanced technologies is also identified to formulate various policies or regulations with the aim of managing technological advancement. Subsequently, businesses operating with increased cost and government regulations are identified to face different complexities in managing business activities successfully (Regency, n.d.). Correspondingly, the proposed research paper will be conducted with the intention of determining the importance of telecommunication for the present business environment irrespective of the complexities arising for adopting advanced technology. 3. Objectives of the Proposed Research Study Presently, telecommunication plays an important role in enhancing the communication network for business to a large extent. In this respect, the main objective of the proposed research study is to determine the importance of telecommunication for businesses. Additionally, there are various other objectives that can be obtained on the completion of the proposed study are provided hereunder. To recognize the development of telecommunication To identify the importance of telecommunication in different spheres To determine the role of telecommunication in businesses To recognize the level of growth of businesses through telecommunication The proposed research study based on aforementioned objectives will facilitate in ascertaining the importance of telecommunication for business in the present contemporary business scenario. Additionally, the proposed research study will also facilitate in acquiring better understanding about growth as well as development accountable for adopting telecommunication. Subsequently, on determining the answer to the research problem, the proposed study will provide adequate understanding about the role played by telecommunication for the development of businesses on a global context. 4. Preliminary Literature Review Development of Technology In the present day context, technology is identified to play an important role for conducting business operations effectively (Bae & Ashcroft, 2004). According to Bae & Ashcroft (2004), presently, businesses are greatly relied on software as well as computers for generating accurate information with the aim of managing business operations efficiently. In this context, businesses are identified to incorporate ICT infrastructure in order to operate business operations smoothly. Businesses with the implementation of ICT in businesses are reckoned to aid in managing business transactions and meeting the requirements of data processing. Contextually, development in the field of technology has assisted businesses is managing business operations as well as transactions executed in the worldwide market segments (Bae & Ashcroft, 2004). According to Roller & Waverman (1996), the rapid development in the technological field has resulted in changing the global business environment. In this context, certain challenges are encountered while implementing policies for appropriately adopting advanced technologies. Additionally, cost of implementing innovation in an economy is proclaimed to be high, which acts as a hindrance in successfully adopting innovation. Similarly, Roller & Waverman (1996) also noted that changes in global environment have also initiated different issues that include developing reliable infrastructure, capacity building, open government and competent human resources. Thus, development of technologies has raised different risk factors. However, it is considered as an important development for the growth of an economy (Roller & Waverman, 1996). The article published by UNDP (2001) implied that development in the field of ICT has aided businesses in possessing effective tools based on which information relating to diversified goods, services and applications used for processing, producing, exchanging, storing and distributing information successfully. In this respect, ICT is identified to be implemented by businesses with the intention of developing an effective communication network with business collaborates and suppliers among others. Subsequently, ICT infrastructure is conceived to develop an effective communication network with the assistance of different technologies that include televisions, computer, internet, television and radio. The development of ICT network has also advocated to assist businesses in conducting operations in accordance with the requirements of market segments (UNDP, 2001). Telecommunication and its Importance In the contemporary business environment, telecommunication is viewed as an important development in the field of technology (Ogbomo & Ogbomo, 2008). Ogbomo & Ogbomo (2008) noted that development in the field of telecommunication is also an effective process based on which the valuable commodity i.e. information exchange is considered. In this regard, business sectors as well as countries equip with telecommunication technologies in order to adopt growth rapidly in the present information-based and post-industrial growth. Correspondingly, investment made towards telecommunication infrastructure is an essential consideration for ensuring the businesses are able to conduct operations with better competitive advantages (Ogbomo & Ogbomo, 2008). In a similar contention, Alleman et al. (n.d.) stated that telecommunication is an important consideration for the development of different economic factors. Additionally, telecommunication is regarded as a vital component with the assistance of which economic infrastructure is developed on a whole. In this context, telecommunication is significant for sharing resources and information within different sectors with the intention of improving business performances. Apart from this, telecommunication is also regarded important for improved participation of different business units. Accordingly, businesses with the assistance of telecommunication are able to improve the processes of decision-making (Alleman et al., n.d.). Importance of Telecommunication for Businesses According to Weiss (2009), the development of telecommunication has introduced the technology of data mining. In this respect, businesses implementing data mining are facilitated with the opportunity of generating as well as storing adequate data for expansion of business operations in different countries to perform business activities competitively. In addition, businesses with the assistance of telecommunication are able to enhance business operations in the sphere of marketing operations, communication network and identify fraud. Correspondingly, telecommunication has facilitated businesses in conducting their operations with better coordination as well as management. The development in telecommunication has also aided businesses in managing fraudulent practices and in turn ensures effective security for data related to business information (Weiss, 2009). In the viewpoint of Rajmohan et al. (2012), telecommunication network has facilitated businesses in developing their communication networks on a global context. The telecommunication network comprises different parts that include access networks, core network, internal network, external network as well as application and management network. In this context, businesses with the implementation of telecommunication are facilitated in understanding the physical connectivity of telecommunication networks (Rajmohan et al., 2012). In this regard, Boutaba & Xiao (n.d.) stated that with the advancement in the telecommunication network, proper management framework is developed in order to ensure that operations are conducted in a coordinated manner. Respectively, telecommunication network management assists management in five areas that include configuration, performance, security, fault and accounting. The framework aids management of businesses in conducting operations in a coordinated as well as managed way, so that information is stored and disseminated suitably amid businesses worldwide. According to Boutaba & Xiao (n.d.), businesses adopting telecommunication are also required to ascertain that information conveyed over the network in an effective manner with proper network monitoring as well as security (Boutaba & Xiao, n.d.). In this respect, businesses in the present scenario adopt telecommunication with the aim of ascertaining that business operations are conducted successfully with better information flow, so that business activities are conducted in accordance with desired organizational objectives. Subsequently, telecommunication has also aided businesses in coordinating business activities amid partners and suppliers among others. The study of telecommunication and its importance have assisted businesses in storing as well as disseminating information with the intention of ensuring that business operations are conducted in a coordinated manner. However, rapid development in the field of telecommunication has resulted in building challenges relating to security and management concerns. Correspondingly, businesses adopting telecommunication face management and security challenges. Additionally, businesses are also identified to face issues in adopting telecommunication advancement abruptly owing to complexities for increased government regulations and policies. The price of adopting telecommunication is also considered to be an important hindrance for businesses to develop an effective communication network with partners and suppliers among others globally. Respectively, businesses implementing telecommunication are required to develop an effective model as well as framework for the management of telecommunication network. Telecommunication network are required to be managed effectively with the aim of ensuring that exchange operation of information are conducted with better security and safety measures. Contextually, the proposed research study will be conducted with the aim of having a better understanding about the research topic and its relevance in the present business environment. In this regard, conducting the proposed research study will facilitate in determining the importance of telecommunication for businesses in performing their operations effectively on a global context. Additionally, the findings obtained from the proposed research study will be relevant for future referral, as the findings will provide adequate information in relation to telecommunication and its importance based on which businesses would be facilitated with the opportunity of conducting business operations through proper flow of information. 5. Research Methodology Research Approach Research method is an organized procedure of investigating a research topic. In this proposed research, a systematic approach will be followed with the aim of accomplishing the desired aims as well as objectives successfully. Additionally, the proposed research will be based on exploratory research technique with the aim of exploring the research topic in a comprehensive manner. In this regard, a mixed approach i.e. the combination of qualitative and quantitative will be adopted with the intention of possessing immense knowledge as well as understanding about the research subject related to importance of telecommunication in the present competitive business scenario. The mixed approach is selected for the proposed research as it incorporates the characteristics of both qualitative research as well as quantitative research approach. Mixed research approach will facilitate in exploring the overall research with better flexibility (Ospina, 2004). Furthermore, the approach is applied with the aim of scrutinizing large as well as representative data. Apart from qualitative characteristics, the mixed approach also embraces the features of quantitative research approach. In this regard, mixed research approach will enable to take the advantages of statistical information as well. Correspondingly, the mixed research approach aids in providing appropriate findings owing to less influence over the different variables, which have been taken into concern during the research (Rao & Woolcock, 2003).
