The couple was on the safari tour and had adventurous hunting expeditions during their visit to Africa. Margot found herself alluring towards the hunter and Macomber sniffed this. Macomber was a coward person as compared to the Wilson that was the main reason for her taking interest in Wilson. Courage played an extremely important role in the whole story. If we start dissecting this theme we will come to the point that all the three characters were portraying different intensities of courage during the entire story.

Ultimately lack of courage in Macomber and his timid nature made him a sick person in front of his lovely and handsome wife. Courage has diverse magnitude and can be used in both good and bad dimensions, as it is being used by the three characters in story. Courage is the one’s ability or built-in trait to do things with bravery and valor. Courage had overshadowed the story from its opening lines in which Margot, Wilson and Macomber were making conversation about the lion. Macomber had a timid personality from the beginning and this was the thing that bothered his wife a lot.

He had never done anything really courageous ever in his life and all he used to know was about motor cycles, fishing, duck shooting, about dogs and etc. These were the things that had never appeared courageous to his beautiful wife. She was living with him just for the sake of money because he was very rich guy indeed from the very first day. Macomber was bit afraid about the shooting experience next morning, he was about to make with Wilson to see the lion. On the other hand Margot was excited to go and see this daring hunting with the two guys.

Macomber felt very disgusted by listening to the lion’s roar and was very much afraid of the lion. He also explained his last night feelings to his wife, who didn’t really bother to it. They want out early in the morning for hunting and by seeing the lion Macomber started
