Name Tutor Course Date Management of Information Technology Introduction The management of information technology is a major subject within the corporate world. This is a field that covers the impact of technology on the various systems within organizations. Information technology innovation is not only limited to the use of various forms of machines especially computers but also points to the functioning of human beings. The management of this technology thus points to the various aspects related to the management of the human /machine interface. This is a type of management that would indirectly foster the overall management of people, related technologies, documents and the various procedures that are common to the entire organization. The ideal management of information technology within any organization is an aspect that greatly translates in to the ideal management of emerging problems. Information Technology innovation management is unique from other forms of management in the sense that it is possible to analyze a number of systems using structures inherent in innovation technology systems. This paper examines the management of information technology especially with regard to the automation of a number of procedures within the corporate world. Assessing the Scope of Information Technology Management The management of Technology innovation frequently described as MOTI forms the intercept between the use of technology and the entire business world. This field combines the use of various forms of technology in the corporate world as it tries to get people automated with the use of its various systems as they perform their various responsibilities within the organization. It emerges that information management is a very vital aspect of all corporate organizations and the need to adopt measures to effectively manage information systems is a vital aspect of any form of innovation technology management. Various professionals in this field of innovation management are held with the responsibility of ensuring the proper management of the various systems and the related projects. The ideal management of any form of technology within a business organization fosters the management of communication across the entire organization (Tatnall et al 123). The management of innovation technology revolves around a number of disciples that makes it possible for the organization to effectively manage the fundamentals of any type of technology. This is the major component of management that makes it possible for any organization to earn the expected competitive advantage. The management of information technology within an organization calls for the need to adopt an ideal technology strategy. This point to the overall role of any form of technology within an organization. Which further points to the identification of the type of technologies that an organization requires. The adoption of any type of technology within an organization calls for the need to critically ascertain the value of that type of technology to the organization. In the event that the technology stands to greatly transform the manipulation of a number of processes within an organization, then the technology should not be ignored. This type of evaluation with regard to information technology has been described as technology mapping (Tatnall et al 123). Yet another important aspect that can ensure the effective management of information technology within an organization is identification of the most fitting type of technology for the organization. It emerges that a number of organizations end up incurring heavy costs with the adoption of various technologies that may not be fitting or of any use to the organization. The procedure adopted in the pursuit of the most ideal or rather suiting type of technology in an organization is referred to as technology road mapping. It is equally important to identify the various projects under development within an organization that are bound to be transformed with the adoption of any type of technology innovation. The procedure adopted in the evaluation of the projects within an organization that may need to be boosted by the adoption of any form of technology is referred to as technology project portfolio. This needs to be done in line with the evaluation of the type of technology currently in use within the organization as far as the development of a particular project is concerned. For any development project within an organization to call for the need to adopt yet another form of technology, the existing type of technology that may be in use should be such that is not effective. This would thus point to the need to adopt yet another more effective type of technology that can ensure a speedy performance with regard to the development of that project in an organization. The procedure adopted in the evaluation of the efficiency of an existing type of technology before the adoption of another type of technology is referred to as technology portfolio (Tatnall et al 123). The major role of any form of technology innovation management within any organization is geared at ascertaining the role or rather the implicated value of any form of technology. It is equally important to constantly evaluate the implicated role of any form of technology within an organization. The incorporation of any form of innovative technology within a corporate organization needs to translate in to customer satisfaction. Technology management within any organization should thus be able to ascertain if at all the type of innovative technology incorporated is bearing any positive impacts to the organization. This is more important especially when pointing to the purpose for which that particular technology might have been adopted. This is an aspect that would possibly communicate to the management team the need to either invest more on the same technology or possibly withdraw from the use of that particular type of technology. Generally the management of innovative technology within an organization revolves around the integrated planning, optimization, design and control of the various products related to a certain type of technology that may have been adopted within an organization (Tatnall et al 123). The management of information technology within an organization is meant to be a field that is held with the responsibility of supervising the human personnel within an organization along the entire technical spectrum. This needs to be done in line with the supervision of the various complex technology systems that are bound to be common to the various levels of operation within an organization. Such a type of management with regard to information technology needs to focus on the provision of necessary instructions in both the production and operation management. The use of information technology is an aspect that is common to the computer applications within an organization, the quality control, the management of various forms of data alongside the principles that are common to the general management. With regard to the management of any form of innovative technology, it emerges that all forms of innovations appear to follow a particular pattern of diffusion. Requirements for the Management of Information Technology Various forms of innovative information technologies stand to have various major impacts on the domains of major interests within organizations. Operations that appear to be effectively coordinated through a type of coalition are vital to all forms of organizations. The effective coordination of such operations calls for the need to adopt ideal tools for decision making via the incorporation of coordinated information. This can only be possible if there exists the most effective data management within an organization. For organizations that are actively involved with the manipulation of various types of data, there exists a major need to adopt a data management system that can ensure the effective management, assimilation, and storage of information. Every organization has a number of logistic needs that need to be ideally supported with an ideal information technology structure. This makes it possible for the information to be readily available to its users in an effort to foster the continuity of the entire operation process. The adoption of digital libraries for instance makes it possible for the next generation to have an access to the most ideal reservoirs of human knowledge. For such reservoirs to be available to the users of the next generation there should exist an ideal mode for storing them. The need to foster long term research especial in science and technology can not be effectively fostered without the incorporation of ideal information technology management. In the current corporate world, the acquisition of ideal information technology systems calls for the need to ascertain the operations of an organization, the type of data that needs to be managed which particularly points to the management of scientific data and the use of various digital libraries (Tatnall et al 123). Characterization of the needs of these three domains with regard to information technology requirements is thus vital. It becomes important to focus on the similarities and differences that may be presented by the various domains of any organization with regard to its information technology requirements. This is more so for a number of requirements that are bound to spread beyond what may be fostered by a number of common standard soft wares for driving commercial operations. Commercial interests in organizations tend to differ and it’s thus important to point to the information technology requirements of an organization with focus on its exact commercial interests. The various differences in the priorities of an organization may appear more important than the general requirements of an information technology infrastructure. The attempt to operate with various information technologies and at the same time ensure the interoperation of various systems is vital at meeting the expected operational standards. With such an approach, it becomes possible to effectively invest in the betterment of information technology with respect to one particular domain and subsequently improve the application of a similar information technology infrastructure in other domains. Information Technology Management with Regard Academic Research- Organizations -The Applicability of Digital Libraries Digital libraries in any academic organization point to a very vital information resource. A number of academic institutions are facing the challenge of providing a very effective interface that would possibly take advantage of the available user knowledge. Such an approach as identified by various academic organizations would help in the identification and support of ideal tools of retrieving and searching along the available information paths. This is the type of model that was adopted after the Apple Knowledge navigator. The former is a type of information navigation tool that would enable the users to effectively manage their tasks and their own daily schedules. Such a tool also makes it possible for the users to get assistance on the various research tasks that they may be held with. This is preferably termed as a knowledge navigator which has been effectively used by a number of academic researchers including renowned professors in universities. A digital library is a very vital tool of any form of academic research that makes it possible for the users to get access to all the related forms of knowledge. Other than academic institutions, various research based institutions also find the use of digital libraries equally important in the manipulation of their data (Beard 154). Such technology has been very vital to health related research where the maintenance and acquisition of information is very critical. In such institutions, the implementation of digital libraries for the effective management of health records implies that such data can not be easily fragmented. A digital library is basically a universe source of all forms of human knowledge. Effective management of such a form of a technology thus calls for a clear understanding of the scope of coverage and the various social and technical issues implicated. Effective management of such a technology should ensure that the users are provided with heterogeneity in the type of data that get from the library. Ideal management of such a technology should always ensure that the users are not in any way limited with regard to the type of information that they may wish to access. Effective management of such information technology should ensure that all forms of data are ideally stored and organized in the most fitting format. Such a library is supposed to foster the development of ideal communities and at the same time ensure the effective dissemination of knowledge (Beard 154). The Management of Information Technology With Regard To the Operations of an Organization The management of the various operations that need to be coordinated within any organization is a very vital role of the adoption of an ideal information technology infrastructure. A number of organizations are faced with the challenge of accessing relevant information and subsequently matching it to the needs of its various operations. Effective management of such operations calls for the need to identify strategies that would rapidly integrate the many operations of an organization. This is because each operation within an organization may be distinct from the other such that it may be demanding a novel combination of the readily available information technology systems (Beard 154). Such operations are modelled in a manner that they need to be done under very intense pressure. Such operations normally exhibit a great heterogeneity with regard to the type of information technology infrastructure that they may need. An effective management of information technology in such a case should be able to cobble the various systems together and at the same time make it possible for all the data that may be needed to be readily available. It also emerges that various operations within organizations are usually collaborative pointing to the need for sharing lots of data. Effective management of the information technology infrastructure in this regard should ensure that the system in use is such that can enhance the reliability of the available information. This is an aspect that would help in the eradication of the various errors that are common to the manual manipulation of data. Ideal management of the information technology in this regard should be able to identify solutions that offer the right type of information to the various users in an organization (Beard 154). Recommendations for the Effective Management of Information Technology The development of an interoperable identifier system is a vital aspect that should be fostered with the move to foster the management of innovative information technologies. The management and effective interoperation of large volumes of data within organizations requires the precise identification of all the required elements of data. The adoption of an ideal identifier system would make it possible to effectively handle the unlimited data. With the use of excellent validation facilities, it becomes possible to identify emerging problems and subsequently solve them. Such facilities make it possible for the data to be acquired with a high level of assurance and can subsequently be referred to in the future. There is need to effectively preserve and code personal and institutional knowledge regarding information in an effort to effectively support the long term and secondary usage of information technology (Liebowitz 177). It is also relatively important to create a number of methods for the proper management of various forms of data generated by emerging forms of microelectromechanical systems. This is a strategy that would foster the ability to handle enormous amounts of data within an organization. This would then point to the need to automate the fast integration of emerging sources of data and related services. Such techniques are required to help the users in determining the emerging relationship between new and current forms of data (Beard 154). Development of self integration soft ware systems is yet another important aspect that ideal management of information technology should consider. This would in the long run would foster the existing specifications and standards. This at the same time would ensure ideal data exchange within an organization. The development of ideal techniques for the modelling of services is equally important for the effective management of information technology. This would possibly support the integration of the various services in an organization. Advocating for the ideal state of information confidentiality and security is yet another important aspect that needs to be considered. There is need for organizations to advance in the level of electronic encryption in an effort to foster security with regard to the controlled access of information .The need to foster ideal decision making tools with the effective management of information technology is equally important especially with the need to foster the ability to predict and possibly foster a number of relevant hypotheses (Liebowitz 177). Conclusion Information technology management revolves around the exploration of information and the understanding of the related technologies. This is a field that evidently determines the strategic capabilities of an organization in an effort to effectively develop products that may foster customer satisfaction. Effective information management would also foster the competitiveness and the profitability of an organization. This field is distinct from management information systems which is merely tied to the various methods used in the automation of the decision making process. Information technology management revolves around the ideal management of IT activities in an organization. Works cited Tatnall, et al.
