On Diversity I believe in the saying that diversity is the one true thing that all individuals have in common. I support the fact that each one of us is created distinct, instilled with exceptional talents, ideas and weaknesses, and is made to complement each other. As I journey through life, I have learned that one of the greatest joys of existence is the ability to appreciate a person through his or her uniqueness, realizing that personal growth and development can never be attained without interacting with different individuals.

My experience as a student teacher in Science and Engineering Magnet High School further highlights and instills in me the importance of diversity. I believe that this high valuation of diversity, together with the various experiences which molds me to become a well-rounded individual, are the greatest contributions that I can offer the educational institution that I will be joining. I consider being a student teacher one of the most fulfilling and challenging task I have ever been into. Looking back, I realize that teaching doesn't only enable the teacher to convey his or her knowledge and skill to his or her students but in fact, teaching is a two way process where students also play an active role of educating their mentors the more important lessons in life.

My role as a student teacher exposes me to 26 sophomores each with different personalities, intellectual level, ideals, and communication techniques. From this diverse population, I have painstakingly learned to accept an individual the way he or she is. At first, I am really impressed by the intellectual excellence of some of my students while I loathe the slow-learners. In a classroom, it is inevitable to encounter students who, due to their lack of interest, motivation or perseverance, find it very hard to grasp the topic being discussed.

However, these slow- learners teach me how to make the lessons more interesting and how to give much-needed encouragement. More importantly, these individuals aid in my moral development by instilling me the value of patience, temperance, and perseverance. They teach me how to smile amidst my predicaments. I believe that the goal of any educational institution is not just to raise the intellectual level of each student but also become instrumental in molding a well rounded individual. This necessitates the employment of diverse mentors who have different knowledge, skill, experiences, ideas, philosophies, and teaching styles.

I strongly believe that this diversity is pivotal in the enrichment educational experience. People with different backgrounds share various ideas to students. I believe that lessons can be best taught by employing a richly diverse intellectual and social environment. Without the diversity of mentor, students will only be able to gain one-sided development. Presenting different ideas to students also stimulates their ability to think critically while enabling them to communicate and deal effectively with people from varied backgrounds.

Diversity breeds mutual respect. This diversity also aids student in respecting other people who does share their beliefs. In my quest for educational excellence, dealing with diverse individuals will be inevitable. It is my ardent desire to contribute to the educational institution where I will be broadening my horizons. Geared with my love for education, interest in mathematics, respect for other people, and critical thinking, I will be bringing in a well-rounded individual who would like to share these traits.

I will contribute the knowledge and skills I've acquired from my discipline as well as the lessons I've learned from my social interactions. It is my utmost goal to bring positive change to an institution by being a good example to all the individuals that I will be dealing with.
