This appears to have been a case of the moderator losing control of the debate since most of the exchanges bypassed him and went directly to either Romney or Obama. His loss of control of fewer opportunities for participation was more of a positive rather than a negative in the debate thanks to the exhilarating exchange of words and ideas against one another (Singham). The only sad part was the lack of equal time for each candidate to air their views since the exchanges were directed and the time was not limited for each candidate.

As a result, on some points, Romney appears to have had more time to make his points known and enough time to come up with comebacks against Obama. Due to this, it suggested that it wee better if the moderator was just scraped off and instead another form of time limiting agent was applied. This is in order to allow the audience to come up with their own idea and judge for themselves on the relevance of the concepts given by the two candidates. The debate was more of a win for Mitt Romney all thanks to his level of aggressiveness and outright portrayal of desperation from time to time in the early stages of the debate.

Romney’s main successes were in putting Obama in defensive mode, where Obama had to explain his situation in relation to his tax plan. In addition, Obama appeared to cutting Romney some slack in the debate by letting some unclear aspects just pass. This is such as the tax plan, which Romney appeared to be highly evasive of by not giving the exact figures that his government expected to collect after the cuts. Obama had a perfect opportunity for a comeback against Romney on this evasiveness, but chose not to bring him down.
